Glenfiddich 14-Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve

Whisky | Single Malt | SpeysideI just picked up the newly released US-exclusive Glenfiddich 14 year Bourbon Barrel Reserve. The Glenfiddich just looks delicious in blue. It’s the first Glenfiddich to be aged in two different types of American Oak barrels.
From Glenfiddich:
Nose: Deep vibrant vanilla notes with hints of citrus, caramalised brown sugar and cinnamon. Baked apple and ripe summer fruits and balanced with the rich oaky aromas.
Taste: Beautifully rich and sweet with layers of creamy toffee, woody spices, candied orange peel and fresh toasted oak.
Finish: Long lasting with lingering sweetness.
So how is it?
I don’t know all about that, but it is pretty delicious. It’s a classic Speyside whisky. It has that unmistakable classic Glenfiddich taste of apple and pears. It is a lot thinner than the 12 and 15 year bottlings. I was hoping that it would be a little thicker, more syrupy. It does have a delicious aftertaste.
It is good, and it’s different, but I don’t know if it’s a repeat buy. For the price, I might just stick with the 15 year.
