Glenmorangie - Nectar D'Or 12-Year

Whisky | Single Malt | HighlandMy wife needed a bottle of rum for the weekend. It's going to be a hot one, so that means icy cold mixed drinks. She handed me the debit card and told me to get myself something nice too. How can I refuse such an open invitation?
An ice cold one is nice, but when the sun goes down, it's time for the good stuff. I picked up Glenmorangie's Nectar D'Or for $63 bucks. For such a nice presentation box, I expected it to be more expensive. The box feels like suede and smells like leather it's really nice.
When I saw such a large box on the shelf, I thought that it was a 1L bottle. It is, however, a 750mL bottle. It's just a very large presentation box. It's very well made. This would make a great gift for someone. It's not just a fancy box either, the whisky is fantastic! Bottled at 46%, it has a lot of flavor going on.
Despite the 46%, it doesn't pack a punch like other whiskies in the high-40s that I've experienced. It's remarkably smooth.
There's a nice hint of wood on the nose, and a fruity sweetness. In the mouth it's malty and spicy. It's very thick and syrupy and has that sweet and sour/dry combination much like
Glenrothes. The finish is long with some smoke.
After it's allowed to open up a bit, the sweetness on the nose is more pronounced. This is a very complex whisky with a lot going on. It has in incredible, deep finish that lasts. This is the third Glenmorangie I've had and all three have been fantastic.
