Highland Park 15 & 18-Year

Whisky | Single Malt | HighlandToday is my wedding anniversary. My wife treated me to not only a Highland Park 15, but an 18 year too! Best. Wife. Ever.
I've had several bottles of the 12 year. It has quickly become my all-time favorite whisky. I just love that complex flavor and long smokey finish. I could not wait to try the 15 year.
Man, was I not disappointed. The 15 year is absolutely amazing. So much better than the 12 year. Probably the best whisky I've had. At $75 a bottle, this isn't a whisky I can buy on a regular basis. It'll be reserved for special occasions. It's not every day you can drop $75 bucks on a bottle of whisky.
Even more so with the 18. You definitely can't drop $140 every day. I'm even surprised she bought this one for me. I would have been over the moon with just the 15. To have the chance to try the 18 is something I would have never expected. Not until Christmas anyway!
I do have to admit, the 18 is not better than the 15. Don't get me wrong, it is fantastic stuff. But don't think that 3 extra years in the barrel makes it 3 years better than the 15. It's a different whisky altogether. While the 15 is supposed to be "light and floral", the 18 boasts a "toffee sweetness". They are both amazing, but different in their own rite. I did enjoy the 18, but not enough to justify the $65 price difference. If I had to choose again, I'd go with the 15. It's just more complex, and has a longer, smokier finish.
I love everything about Highland Park. The whisky; the packaging. I just love the packaging. The font work, the colors. They are, and still remain, my favorite whisky.
