The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14-Year

Whisky | Single Malt | SpeysideI was so impressed with the Balvenie DoubleWood 12-Year that I wasted no time in running out to pick up the 14-year Caribbean Cask. It was dumb luck that the liquor store I popped into had it. It was $64.99; that's about $15 more than the 12-year.
Master of Malt:
Nose: The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.
Palate: Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangos with a hint of orange in the background.
Finish: The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.
Overall: Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.
This is the second Balvenie I've had and I can tell you that this is definitely a Speyside whisky.
This 14-year smells sweet and floral. There's something else in there I can't put my finger on, but I've never smelt it before in a whisky. (Maybe it's rum?) After a few minutes in the glass, a nice woody smell developed.
The taste? Delicious! It has a really nice finish. It's like no other whisky I've had before: sweet, fruity, hint of spice, and maybe a little smoke.
Looks like The Balvenie is one of my new favorites.
