I had a little bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket. So when my wife asked me to swing by the liquor store to pick up a couple of bottles for her, I just had to treat myself to a few bottles of whisky.
As I said in my last post, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to nab a
Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve Limited Edition. I wanted it to last me a while, so I needed a second bottle of something that I could keep going back to and not feel bad about it.
I was going to buy another Glenfiddich 12 year, but I already had that. Maybe the 15 year? Too expensive. I was already $70 bucks in the hole with the Gold Label Reserve, so I wanted a bottle in the $30-$40 range.
The Original Glenmorangie it is. It’s only $34.49. It’s regarded as the best selling single malt whisky in Scotland. Aged 10 years. It’s basically one of those whiskies that everyone should have a bottle of sitting in the house. It’s a staple. Bread, milk, eggs, Glenmorangie.
I had the
Glenmorangie Lasanta 12-Year and it was really good. A little strong, but good. I figured The Original, being 10 years old, would be a little softer and less adventurous. Since it’s the best selling single malt in Scotland, it must appeal to pretty much everyone’s taste. That means it’s unoffensive and takes no chances. Sounds like a whisky that’s just whisky. For $35, I’ll try it.
Bottled at 43%. I was actually surprised by that. Being so popular with the masses, I assumed that it would have been 40% like most blends.
A nice amber color.
On the nose, it has a strong citrus smell, with some light wood. On the palate, it’s fresh, flowery, fruity, and creamy. The finish is like candy. There are hints of toffee and caramel, vanilla, and custard.
Yup. This is the whisky you can drink pretty much every day.
