I admit it: I'm a total geek. I love electronics, programming, 3D printing, 3D art, and vintage Apple hardware. I'm always juggling half a dozen projects. I also enjoy documenting it all: my successes, my failures, my experiences... and everything geeky along the way.

Geek Extraordinaire. Yeh, I said it.

I picked up some cool guitar and amp props about a month ago. I was busy putting the wraps on the Lena tribute, so it took me a while before I could play with them. Not that I’m complaining, but most of my renders are Victoria-oriented. What can I say? I like girls. In any case, I figured it was time to throw a Michael 6 render in the mix.

I started out with M6 and put an axe in his hands, dressed him up, and gave him some rocker hair.

I then dropped in some full stacks and started adding some lights.

Guitar 3

I wanted to go for a grungy club look. It could be a big arena, but I just needed to throw something in the background to fill the space.

After seeing the decor, the red guitar just didn’t make a good fit. So I changed it to black.

Guitar 6

It was a little dark, so I added a few more lights and started to play around with the colors. Can you believe I got this far into the render when I realized that the guitar didn’t come with a strap? Who makes a guitar prop and doesn’t include a strap?

Guitar 9

I basically just used a primitive. I scaled it down so it would look like a strap. It was way too much work to make one piece that would go up and around Michael’s neck and down to the other side of the guitar. So I simplly used two small strips.

I added a D-Former, moved the field...

..and twisted it around to the back.

I did the same on the other side, and then textured it with some black leather. You’ll never know that they don’t meet in the back. If it’s off camera, who cares? You can hardly see it in the render, but it’s one of things that you’d only notice it if it was missing.

I then took it into Pixelmator and added some smoke and lighting effects. I started playing around with the hue, saturation, and color and came up with this neat look. I just liked the way it looked. The previous render was much too dark. I think this definitely has an on-stage-in-front-of-big-lights feel.
