I admit it: I'm a total geek. I love electronics, programming, 3D printing, 3D art, and vintage Apple hardware. I'm always juggling half a dozen projects. I also enjoy documenting it all: my successes, my failures, my experiences... and everything geeky along the way.

HD Michael and Victoria

DAZ 3D released some HD morphs and textures for Michael and Victoria today. They look amazing. It’s just unfortunate that they have to be purchased separately. You’d think at this point that this level of quality would be standard, but I guess DAZ has to make their money too. Not that I’m knocking the standard versions. Looking at renders of Michael 6 and Victoria 6, it’s hard to imagine that they could look any better.

From DAZ:

This product contains high definition head and body morphs for Michael 6 and Victoria 6, as well as a brand new, never before released texture set for them both. Harness the power of HD and add unprecedented detail to your renders. Blur the lines between CG and reality with these intricate morphs sculpted at 64x the resolution of the base Michael 6 and Victoria 6 characters.

• Morphs sculpted at 64x the resolution of the base figure.
• Sharper creases where you need them
• Smoother curves for an organic, natural look.
• More definition, and more details, without significant system overhead.
• See your details updated in real time (Viewport subdivision must be turned on).
• Fine details that don't rely on image maps and work across UV sets.
• DAZ's two best figures just got better

I’m going to do a lot of side-by-side comparisons between the standard-issue M6 and V6 and the new HD versions. I’ll give you the head’s up now, some of theses renders are NSFW.

Starting out with Victoria 6.

I’m rendering these at 620-wide, so hopefully you get a sense of the detail that the HD versions have.

There’s such an amazing level of detail in the HD versions. I did a few test renders just to try them out, and although I was just tinkering around, they came out pretty nice. The HD textures and morphs should add a nice level of realism to your renders.

It’s also easy to apply the HD texture to other characters. I could take a pre-existing character, like Danika, and apply them to her shape. Danika has a very light-colored skin and is supposed to be a vampire.

Danika 20

She comes with some sharp teeth, red eyes and some gothic style makeup options. She’s definitely a creature of the night. However, she has a really nice head and body morph. It would be a shame to limit her to just vampire renders.

She’s just a click-away from using Victoria’s HD skin texture. By adding just the skin texture, she’ll retain her head and body morph and look like an entirely different character.

Danika 19

Same goes for Michael. Here’s the HD Michael texture applied to the Logan character.

Being able to add the HD textures to any of my Genesis 2 characters is worth the money alone.
