I admit it: I'm a total geek. I love electronics, programming, 3D printing, 3D art, and vintage Apple hardware. I'm always juggling half a dozen projects. I also enjoy documenting it all: my successes, my failures, my experiences... and everything geeky along the way.

3D Printed Microsope Stand

We have a microscope at work that connects to a stand that is clamped to a desk. We went to move the scope to a new bench and realized once we took the clamp off that it's not even holding the scope to the bench. The spot where the clamp holds the base down is broken off. The base was bolted to the table at some point. Needless to say, we cannot put it on the new bench without having to drill holes through the bench. That's not an option.

Sounds like something I can fix with a 3D print. I took the base home to measure it and make a 3D model.

I then dropped it into MatterControl to slice it. It needs to be pretty strong, so I think I will pint it with 50% infill.

Wow, that is a lot of infill!

It took 19 hours to print.

It looks pretty spot-on. I'll have to take it into work to see if it fits. Fingers crossed!

Woo hoo! Nailed it!
