3D-Printed Raiders of the Lost Ark Fertility Idol
Hot off the hells of my
20" Victoria 6 3D-printed figurine is another 3D-printed project. I've been wanting to print the fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark for a while. I've just never found a good enough model.

I recently found a really great model over at
Thingiverse and just had to go for it.

I smoothed out the mesh just a little bit to save on some sanding. I also built in some supports for the chin. I don't know if they'll make it or not. Fingers crossed.

After 14 hours, it was clear that the supports had broken loose at some point. However, it managed to somehow save itself and recover.

After 27 hours and 45 minutes the print was complete.

That come out awesome. I printed it with 5% infill so it's really light.

I gave it a good sanding and filled in all the little imperfections with Bondo.

I then gave it a coat or primer. There were still a few imperfections, so I went back over them with some Vallejo putty.

After another coat of primer, it was looking really good.

I then sanding it with 400 grit to make everything nice and smooth.

I then gave it two coats of gold.

After that dried, I gave it a buffing with some steel wool to remove that shiny-plastic look. I also gave it a slight weathering with some black acrylic paint.

I'm pretty happy with the results.
