Watch Strap Box

Watches | DIY | Laser CuttingMy collection of watch straps is starting to grow. I need a place to store them, but all the boxes that I see on Amazon just aren't fitting the bill. I need something custom. I figured that I'd design my own box and use the Glowforge to engrave a bunch of gears and logos all over it.
I started in SketchUp and designed a box about 12" long.

I then exported all the faces to an SVG so I could detail them in Inkscape.

I added a bunch of cool gears to the lid, and added some watch company logos to all the sides. (My favorites, of course.)

I then cut and engraved all the pieces out of some cherry hardwood that I had. It came out really nice.

I then cut the inserts that hold on the lid.

I then glued it all together and clamped it overnight.

When that was dry, I attached the lid, glued the pieces together and clamped it tight so that when it dried it would make a nice fit.

That came out awesome. I love making things that you just cannot buy in stores.
