For the armor, there are several elements from multiple outfits that I want to try and replicate.
I first started by importing all the models into Meshmixer so that I could take them apart. I started with the breastplate.
I deleted most of the model, just leaving the cups. I then made the models solid.
I then did a boolean difference in order to incorporate the model's geometry into the cups. That way they will make a perfect fit.
I then did another boolean with some rods into order to put holes in each of the corners.
I can them loop some metal rings through the holes so that I can connect them together with some chains.
After seeing how amazing the
sword came out on a resin printer, I've decided to pick up a resin printer to print the armor. Until I can get my hands on one, I'm just going to print the parts for now at a low resolution so that I can continue prototyping the outfit.
Next up were the pauldrons. The model was only a one-sided shell, so I had to play around with it in order to make it solid with a nice shape that would conform to the figurine.
I lined up the pauldron with a cylinder and then made the model solid.
I then did a boolean difference and smoothed the result.
I then mirrored the part.
Not bad.
There was no way to print the helmet without breaking it into separate parts and adding supports to the main piece.
After it printed, I glued it together and test-fitted the pieces. That looks pretty good. However, I think I will have to make the helmet bigger to accommodate a wig. Right now, it's pretty tight.
The belt was printed in two pieces and connected with chains.
Right now, the chains and the lengths are all preliminary. I just want to get an overall feel for how the outfit is going to look. I inevitably will be making more adjustments as the build progresses.
The bracers are a little rough looking. Then again, these are just prototypes printed at a low resolution so they are OK for now.
Eventually they'll be secured with leather straps and buckles. For now I'll just secure them with some paper and tape. I'll also have to design some sort of harness for the pauldrons.
I also still have to work out the kinks as to how to properly secure the scabbard. I don't know if I should have it hanging across her back, or hanging off the belt. I also want to try my hand at making some chainmail, so maybe I can incorporate some of that into the loincloth.
There is still more work to do but this is the majority of the armor that I will be printing. The rest will be made out of fabric, chains, and leather.
